Installation & Window Compatibility

Check compatibility before ordering

P1 uses a window connector designed for two window configurations: windows that slide vertically (up and down) and windows that slide horizontally (left and right). Before purchasing, check your window's clear opening. The adjustable connector spans 925–1,065 mm (36.42–41.93 in). For a window that slides up and down, this is the clear opening width; for a window that slides left and right, it is the clear opening height. This span does not limit both dimensions of the whole window. Do not install P1 in window types or openings outside these specifications, and do not force the connector into the frame.

The connector includes adjustable extension panels and rain gaskets. For a window that slides up and down, the connector lies horizontally at the bottom of the opening, in the sash track, and the sash closes onto it with gaskets above and below. For a window that slides left and right, the connector stands vertically at the closing side, in the sash track, and the sash closes against it with gaskets on both sides. Adjust the extension panels to fill the opening. The sash must close against the gaskets and the assembly must stay secure. Do not use a configuration that blocks a required emergency exit or violates applicable building, rental or homeowners' association requirements.

Location and mounting requirements

The P1 installation uses an outdoor unit, a window connector and an indoor wall-mounted unit. The outdoor pipe may run up to 3 m (9.8 ft) from the outdoor unit to the window connector; the indoor pipe may run up to 2.5 m (8.2 ft) from the window connector to the indoor unit, in the same room. Do not stretch or kink either pipe, and close the insulation sleeves with the cable slit facing out.

The outdoor unit weighs approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Wall-mount it only on concrete or brick using the supplied brackets and 3/8 in concrete anchors; otherwise, bolt it to the floor stand on a level slab, with one anchor in each foot. Two people are required to lift and position the outdoor unit.

The indoor unit weighs approximately 10 kg (22 lb). It can be mounted horizontally or vertically on the supplied 419.5 mm rail and three hanging brackets, and projects approximately 191 mm (7.5 in) from the wall. The rail has three holes at 185 mm spacing; use 1/4 in screws with wall plugs and the supplied 1:1 drill template. On drywall, fix into studs or anchors rated for the load. Leave about 270 mm clear past one end of the rail and 230 mm past the other, plus 75 mm extra on the side away from the raised end, to slide the unit on.

Power and installation safety

P1 is designed for a grounded 110 V, single-phase, 60 Hz supply and requires a dedicated grounded 110 V, 20 A circuit. Only the outdoor unit plugs in, into a grounded outdoor outlet close to the outdoor unit; the four-core inter-unit cable supplies the indoor unit. Do not use an extension cord. Follow the installation guide for routing and connecting the supplied cable, window connector, pipes and mounting hardware.

Installation requires appropriate drilling and fastening tools. Customers are responsible for verifying their intended location and arranging qualified help if their mounting, electrical or other site conditions require it. Do not perform fixed electrical work, structural work or other legally restricted activity without required qualifications.

Before first power-on, check that: the outdoor unit is bolted to its brackets or stand and the indoor unit sits securely on its rail against the stop; both pipes click in at both ends (tug each gently); the sash closes against the connector and both gaskets seal; the insulation sleeves are closed and the cable runs through their slits without damage or pinching; the inter-unit cable is connected to both units; and no inlet or outlet is blocked, indoors or outdoors. Connect the outdoor unit to the grounded outlet only after the supply and circuit have been checked against the electrical instructions.
